Orientation and Strategic Fields of Action for Sustainable Success

Understanding Relevance

When companies place packaging on the market, they are obliged to meet certain compliance requirements. This includes registration with the responsible authorities, reporting packaging quantities and financing the return and recycling of packaging.

Paying Plastic Tax on Non-Recyclable Packaging

Within the European Union there is an additional plastic tax for non-recyclable packaging. This tax is intended to encourage the use of recyclable packaging materials.

Knowing the Regulatory Framework

The regulatory framework for packaging is based on the principle of extended producer responsibility (EPR = Extended Producer Responsibility). This principle states that companies that put packaging into circulation for the first time are responsible for the disposal of this packaging.

At the European level, extended producer responsibility is regulated by the Packaging Directive. This directive requires all manufacturers and importers of packaging to participate in a system for taking back and recycling packaging. In the member states, the Packaging Directive is implemented through national packaging laws.

Using Information and Communication Systems

There are a variety of different systems for national registers and notifications in the member states of the European Union. These systems differ in terms of the functions offered, the forms to be used and the data to be submitted.

Companies that place packaging on the market in several Member States must carry out national registrations and notifications in different systems. This can lead to a lot of administrative effort.

Meeting Compliance Requirements

Companies can optimize compliance and meet requirements by leveraging software and compliance services and expert knowledge. These services help monitor compliance requirements, create reports and communicate in different countries.
